We walked into our local Target and noticed a change on our way to our favorite aisle. It’s as if the powers that be in the retail world flipped a giant switch, and suddenly summer was no more. Picnics had been swapped for plaid, and back to school items seemed to be looming around every corner.
While we’re big fans of fall, we’re encouraging everyone to pump the brakes on fall leaves and apple cider and look around you – there’s still plenty of summer left! With over half of August remaining, we’re continuing our pursuit of an endless summer with a perfect burger elevated only by Double Take Ghost Pepper Pineapple hot sauce.
We love this basic burger recipe from Food Republic. It calls for the following:
1 1/2 pounds ground beef, (at least 80 % lean, a.k.a. 80/20)
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
From there, the rest is easy:
Preheat your grill to high.
In a bowl, using your hands, combine all of the ingredients until evenly incorporated. Form into 4 equal sized burgers.
Place the burgers on the hot grill and cook for 4 to 6 minutes on each side, depending on how well done you like them.
Now you’re ready to add the special Double Take Salsa twist. You’ll need:
4 slices of mozzarella cheese
4 round slices pineapple (fresh is best; can be canned)
2oz Thai sweet chili sauce
Double Take Ghost Pepper Pineapple hot sauce, to taste
Before removing burgers from grill, melt a slice of mozzarella on each serving. Allow to melt 1-2 minutes before adding burgers to buns. Top each with pineapple. Mix Thai sweet chili sauce and mayonnaise, adding additional Thai sweet chili sauce as needed. Add to burgers, before adding the final, burger-perfecting finishing touch: Double Take Salsa Ghost Pepper Pineapple hot sauce!
Beware this sauce’s namesake pepper is so hot it’s “scary”, but the sweetness from the pineapple – combined with the smokiness of Ghost chile – gives this hot sauce a unique but well-balanced flavor profile.
